Gianluca Della Monica

The author is from Rome, but since 1996 he has chosen a military life like permanent service and is often far away from the Capital. In his spare time he doesn't mind short breaks in some European cities like Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dublin, his preferred one, that often inspires him in his writings. He writes poetry, but the novel is the literary shape in which he feels more legacy. He adores studying the psycology of men in moments of crisis, in order to describe it after his interpretation. In a particular way he loves to describe difficult or impossible situations in order to demonstrate that in all cases a way of escape exists, and to always remember that life returns even after being in ruins, since it is nature that has priority on all, so on the ruins the grass can grow again and, sometimes, also the flowers.

His favourite writers are in great part contemporary, everyone fascinates him for a different characteristic, like the pluck in the charachters of Ken Follett, the linguistic sweetness of Dacia Maraini, the touching atmospheres of Susanna Tamaro and the mordacious humour of Luciano De Crescenzo. As regards the writers of the past, he especially admires two authors: the romantic Coleridge and Schopenhauer philosopher.

Della Monica asserts that, when he begins to write a novel, his ideas start from an aphorism, in the case of "THE SICK ANGEL", to inspire him were the words of the Mahabharata: "The spirit is that that the sword cannot hurt, that the fire cannot consume, that waters cannot macerate, that the noon wind cannot dry." That's the reason why THENOVELIST wanted to add a collection of aphorisms to the site, so that they may be worthy as inspiration to all of you. We therefore invite anyone to send new ones to the following address: mail@ilromanziere.com . You can send your favourite aphorisms, famous phrases or your personal lines, they will make up our directory with the name or the nickname (as you prefer) of who has suggested them.
